FAQ

FAQ

*Freedom Park is set on a drain field for storm water, as well as Camano Commons septic system. The pipes in the ground are very delicate and cannot be driven on due. Stakes or other ground-penetrating objects cannot be used in the park as the pipes are shallow. Please help keep our neighbors happy and follow this important rule!*

Why is there no county or state funding for Freedom Park?

  • Freedom Park land was donated to the Freedom Park Association and is held by the Association as private property. It is not county land so they do not contribute to the park. All operations are run by the Association volunteer board of directors, and are funded solely by donations and private grants. Learn more on our About page.

How can I volunteer to help with the park?

  • Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Kevin, at freedomparkvolunteers@gmail.com and he can keep you informed of work parties and other events we need volunteers for.

I want to have a party at the park. Can I reserve the sheltered area?

  • Freedom Park is first come, first serve. We do not have a reservation system. There is also no electric or running water available at the park. Please bring your own supplies and clean up after your party.

Can I pay for the message board or fence pickets if I don’t have a PayPal account?

  • You can check out with your credit card or debit card as guest through PayPal, so no PayPal account is needed. They act as our payment processor.

Why is the playground fence being replaced?

  • The existing fence is 15 years old and is rotting. This has created a safety issue for kids who play there. We will be replacing the posts, top, and bottom kick boards with very durable engineered product made from recycled plastic. This frame will last for 50 years. The new wood pickets will be up for the next 10 years! At that time the Freedom Park Association can raise more funds with new pickets.

What is the timeline for the new fence?

  • We will be removing the old fence and closing the playground May 12-16. This will allow time to move the woodchips back, install the posts and new pickets, and put things back in order. There will be temporary orange safety fencing surrounding the playground while it is under construction and being cleaned up. The park will reopen on May 18!

How many pickets are available?

  • As of March 15, we have sold 491/850.

How do I order multiple pickets or multiple message board reservations?

  • Fill out the product information and click “Add to Cart.” Then scroll back up, delete the previous text, enter your next text, and click “Add to Cart”. Keep doing this until you have all you like. They will all be listed in your cart.

What is happening to the old pickets?

  • We respect those who originally built the park and plan to preserve the current pickets as a memorial art installation at the park. We will be constructing a backing for the large Camano Island sign next to the red building facing the playground. Old pickets will be freshened up and installed as a memorial on that backing.

What if I really want my old pickets?

  • We would love to keep your picket at the park as part of our memorial art installation. If you would rather not have your old picket displayed, contact us to make arrangements. Please do not go take your picket down! This creates a safety hazard for kids in the park.
